Amy Peters, PhD
Principal Investigator; Assistant Professor, Harvard Medical School
Dr. Peters is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. She received her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago and completed postdoctoral training in neuropsychology and neuroscience at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Peters’ research focuses on the course and treatment of mood disorders across the developmental lifespan. She has focused especially on how biological markers of physical health—including immune, endocrine, and vascular processes—shape brain function, cognition, and emotion during periods of heightened developmental vulnerability. Dr. Peters also has translational interest in leveraging lifestyle and behavioral approaches to prevent mental health problems and promote physical well-being. Through the Center for School Behavioral Health, Dr. Peters is investigating how school-based physical activity programs can be intentionally designed to promote mental health and resilience. Her work centers on student athletes—given that school sports are the primary way many youth engage in physical activity—while generating insights that extend to optimizing adolescent health and development more broadly.
